Purpose of the Post.
To undertake the full range of highway technology work required for the installation and maintenance of various highway technology and street furniture assets on the strategic road network. Any other technology asset work as may be required by the agency from time to time.
Undertake all inspection. maintenanceand testing work including completion of asset management reports
Responsibility for functions .e.g. staff, budgets, equipment
Any equipment, vehicle, machinery or goods appertaining to the duties mentioned.
Main Duties
All works associated with the installation, inspection and maintenance of highway technology assets and other street furniture. The extent of assets tunnel safety systems, generators, pumping stations, CCTV, weather stations, variable message signs, IT Networks, emergency telephones.
Manage all required documentation/certification and ensure they are completed correctly and returned to the work supervisor/engineer promptly.
Ensure that all work and certification comply with all current legislation/recommendations e.g Electricity at Work Regulations.
Ensure compliance with all British and highway standards
Ensure that all documentation/certification which sets the standard to enable compliance with the law has been completed.
Ensure that all work schedules are discussed with the works supervisor/engineer and provide feedback on all jobs.
Competent to attend emergencies and unplanned maintenance during and outside working hours
Able to work on own initiative with minimum supervision
Ensure that your allocated IT devices are functional at all times and utilised fully to manage the technology assets.
Be part of a standby rota system to attend site to assist with emergencies and urgent fault rectification.
Ensure that all faults/defects are clearly communicated to the engineer/works supervisor immediately.
Comply to health and safety legislation and policies etc.
Ensure P.P.E. is utilised when risk assessment requires and stored correctly when not in use
Undertake all training required to enable the work to be completed safely and to an approved/recognised Standard
Undertake the required vehicle checks and full completion of relevant paperwork
Manage all stock on vehicles and site, and communicate with engineer/works supervisor regarding any issues.
Ensure that all paperwork (time sheets, vehicle sheets) and certificates are completed accurately and on time
Be aware of the Health and Safety Act and co-operate with the Health and Safety and Quality Assurance Manager to ensure that the Unit conforms with the relevant requirements.
Ensure that Sector Scheme qualifications/training is obtained within 24 months of appointment to the role.
Responsibility for self-development.
Ensure compliance with Health and Safety rules in the workplace in accordance with the responsibilities noted in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Council’s Health and Safety Policy.

Undertake any other reasonable duty which corresponds to the salary level and responsibility level of the job.
Responsibility to report any concern or suspicion that a child or vulnerable adult is being abused.
Special Circumstances. e.g. the need to work unsociable hours, special working arrangements etc.
Assist with emergencies and urgent asset faults outside working hours.
Attend planned and unplanned overnight A55 road tunnel closures as scheduled.
Requirement to drive company vehicles
Working at the side of a high-speed road
Working at Height (MEWP, Ladders)
Working within Traffic Management on high-speed roads
Working on the highway throughout the year
Working in confined spaces
Working unsociable hours for prolonged periods of up to 3 weeks.
