Job Description
Purpose of Post
- Ensure that the people of Gwynedd are at the centre of everything we do.
- Work as a member of the Mental Health Social Service team. The post will be responsible for assessing, organising and providing services for people who have mental health problems and their carers. In addition, the post-holder will be expected to contact other community workers from the statutory and voluntary sectors when appropriate, to jointly organise the service to be delivered. The successful applicant will also be expected to conduct assessments under the Mental Health Act as an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) or have the ability and skills to complete an AMHP course within two years of commencing the post.

Main Duties
AMHP Duties (Mental Health)
- Act as a Social Worker (RSW) and Approved Mental Health Practitioner (AMHP) in the Mental Health Team.
- Undertake statutory work in accordance with the Mental Health Act 1983 as an Approved Registered Social Worker (AMHP) or with the ability and the skills to complete an AMHP course which is approved within two years of commencing the post.
- Maintain your professional status through post-qualifying training and regular supervision.
Social Worker (up to year 4)
- Practise within the legislative frameworks and relevant guidelines that underpin the social services provision in Wales.
- Implement the professional code of practice as a registered approved professional.
- Possess the latest information and maintain your own professional development.
- Develop social work practice through supervision and reflection.
- Manage and be accountable for your own work.
- Collaboration within teams, networks and multidisciplinary and multi-organisational systems.
- Practice professional judgment and decision-making in complex situations.
- Manage ethical issues, dilemmas and conflict in complex situations.
- Prepare and submit professional reports and records, ensuring that the information is correct, consistent and is shared securely and appropriately.
- Support people to participate in decision-making processes.
- Advocate with and on behalf of individuals, families, supporters, groups and communities.

- Undertake strength-based assessments and practice in a way that promotes self-determination, independence and empowerment.

Social Worker (up to year 7)
- Practise within the legislative frameworks and relevant guidelines that underpin the social services provision in Wales.

- Possess the latest information and maintain your own professional development. Support colleagues with their development through mentoring.
- Develop social work practice through supervision and reflection. Support colleagues at different stages in their career with continuous reflection through an individual or group reflection exercise activity.
- Manage and be accountable for your own work.
- Work jointly within teams, networks and multidisciplinary and multi-organisational systems. Advise colleagues on complex work fields through the mentoring role.
- Practice professional judgment and decision-making in complex situations. Support colleagues at different stages in their career to develop confidence surrounding professional judgement through the mentoring role.
- Manage ethical issues, dilemmas and conflict in complex situations. Support social workers at different stages of their careers to manage more complex matters through the mentoring role.
- Prepare and submit professional reports and records, ensuring that the information is correct, consistent and is shared securely and appropriately. Support social workers at different stages of their careers to develop their skills in writing reports and keeping records, through the mentoring role.
- Support people to participate in decision-making processes.
- Advocate with and on behalf of individuals, families, supporters, groups and communities.
- Work together with people who require care and support and other professionals in complex situations, and support colleagues with advice and guidance at different stages in their careers.

- Be a role model and share good practice, advice and support to enable team colleagues, less experienced social workers to develop their careers.
- This will include mentoring, working together on cases and supporting the service's quality assurance by inspecting and sampling files and practice and advising social work colleagues on specialist work fields, within the mentoring role.
