Purpose of the post
• Ensure that the people of Gwynedd are at the heart of everything we do.
• To support the day service for older people and manage the service in the Supervisor’s absence
Responsibility for functions
•Responsibility for ensuring that the service’s buildings and all furniture, equipment and apparatus are in good condition. The Property Section or another agency (appropriate company) should be informed of any faults. In the absence of the Supervisor, need to ensure that the Establishment’s staff and finance are managed effectively.
Main duties
General Care for the Clients’ Welfare
•To provide meals, warmth, general care, including bathing and hairdressing, helping clients to the toilet, washing personal clothes, as well as companionship and social motivation.
•To participate and contribute to the Day Care service users’ formal reviews and prepare plans for their care in the future.
•To organise health promotion events, and prepare varied social programmes – speakers, trips, coffee mornings, crafts, and include local voluntary associations and Churches and Chapels in this.
Administration and Management of the Centre
•To keep, and regularly update individual files on clients, which should include an application form, care plan, risk assessments, review forms and any other information involving the client.
•To be familiar and comply with all the department’s policies
•To ensure that the principles included in the Health and Safety at Work booklet are adhered to, recording accidents in the Accidents Book and filling in the appropriate accident forms for the regional Office.
•To ensure that the Time Sheets are completed each week and returned to the relevant office, noting details of any leave and sickness absences.
•To order supplies for afternoon tea, keeping within the annual budget.
•To order furniture and equipment, keeping within the annual budget, in the Supervisor’s absence.
•To assist the Supervisor to prepare a list of all furniture and fixtures each year, and contribute towards the preparation of the annual estimates
•To ensure that clients are escorted to and from the Centre when required.
•In an emergency or bad weather, the Supervisor / Assistant Supervisor will have the right to close the Centre and ensure that the clients are transported home.
•When relevant, the Assistant Supervisor will review the administration and safety of the kitchen.
•To ensure that the manager of the Residential and Day Unit is aware of any matters that could affect the quality of the service provided.
•To register with the Care Council in accordance with the national guidelines.
Staff Supervision
•To undertake the duties and responsibilities of managing the Centre’s staff by providing guidance and an example in the Supervisor’s absence.
•To ensure that the staff receive the relevant supervision and training in the Supervisor’s absence.
•To ensure that all members of staff are present on time and carry out their work conscientiously at all times.
•To ensure that the Centre and the kitchen (if relevant) run smoothly, in the interests of the users.
•To ensure familiarity with the Supervisor’s administrative duties in order to delegate during annual leave or sickness absences.
•When members of staff are on holiday and/or ill, organise supply staff for the Centre, and when appropriate, the kitchen staff.
•Meals are taken with the clients, and they are provided free of charge, as part of the duty.
•To implement the Council’s appraisal scheme in order to ensure staff development.
General
•Responsibility for self-development.
•Ensure compliance with Health and Safety rules in the workplace in accordance with the responsibilities noted in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Council’s Health and Safety Policy.
•Operate within the Council’s policies in relation to equal opportunities and equality.
•Responsible for managing information in accordance with the Council’s information management guidelines. Ensure that personal information is treated in accordance with Data Protection legislation.
•Commitment to reducing the Council’s carbon emissions in accordance with the Carbon Management Plan, and to encourage others to act positively towards reducing the Council’s Carbon Footprint.
•Undertake any other reasonable duty which corresponds to the salary level and responsibility level of the job.
•Responsibility to report any worry or suspicion that a child or vulnerable adult is being abused
