Purpose of the post
Who is Actif North Wales?
Actif North Walesis a regional physical activity and sport partnership working across North Wales. We work collaboratively with partners to improve health and wellbeing by encouraging and supporting more people to be active – in ways that are relevant, accessible, and sustainable for them.
The purpose of this post is to strengthen the resilience, inclusivity, and sustainability of community clubs across North Wales.
The officer will work regionally to identify shared challenges, connect clubs and partners, and provide tailored, strategic support that complements local delivery.
This is a new and innovative role designed to:
•Address gaps in club development support across the region.
•Build stronger connections between clubs and system partners.
•Facilitate peer learning and collaborative solutions.
•Test and evaluate a regional model of club support that adds value to existing structures.
Responsibility for functions
•No direct line management responsibilities.
•Budget Oversight: Will be responsible for managing a modest project budget to support club development initiatives (e.g. events, resources, commissioning support, mentoring).
•Relationship Management:
oBuild and maintain strong working relationships with local authority officers, clubs, volunteers, National Governing Bodies (NGBs) and system partners.
oAct as a connector between local delivery and regional/national partners (e.g. Sport Wales, NGBs, third sector).
•Information Management:
oEnsure accurate recording of club engagement, support provided, and outcomes achieved.
oContribute to regional learning through case studies and feedback.
Main duties
Club Engagement and Support
•Map and connect with community clubs across the six local authority areas.
•Identify common themes, challenges, and opportunities.
•Provide responsive, proportionate support to clubs, including signposting and mentoring.
•Offer flexible support, including evenings/weekends, to match volunteer availability.
Facilitation and Learning
•Develop and deliver a rolling programme of support initiatives (e.g. workshops, peer learning, joint bids).
•Champion and share good practice across the region.
•Facilitate thematic or cluster-based support to maximise reach and impact.
System Navigation and Partnership Working
•Act as a connector between clubs and wider system partners.
•Co-design and co-deliver support with partners where appropriate.
•Ensure alignment with Actif’s strategic priorities and locality plans.
Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning
•Contribute to the development of a regional evidence base through case studies, feedback, and insight.
•Support the evaluation of the pilot model and share learning across the region.
Corporate Responsibilities
•Take responsibility for personal development and continuous learning.
•Ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation and Council policies.
•Operate within the Council’s policies on equality, diversity, and inclusion.
•Manage information in line with data protection legislation and Council guidelines.
•Contribute to reducing the Council’s carbon emissions in line with the Carbon Management Plan.
•Undertake any other reasonable duties commensurate with the role and salary level.
•Report any concerns or suspicions regarding the safeguarding of children or vulnerable adults.
Special circumstances
The postholder must be willing to travel across North Wales and work flexibly, including occasional evenings and weekends, to meet the needs of the role.
