Purpose of the post
•Ensure that the people of Gwynedd are at the heart of everything we do.
•Arrange open air activities in the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB)
•Arrange and lead work with volunteers in the AONB
•Contribute to the work to maintain and improve habitats, access and historical features.
Responsibility for functions
•Oversee volunteers and contractors
Responsibility for managing budgets allocated for projects or other specific work
•Responsibility for tools and implements provided for the work associated with the post, including any vehicle provided for transportation.
Main duties
•Responsibility for implementing projects and work programmes which contribute towards improving public access, maintain biodiversity and restore historical landscape features in the AONB.
•Support and help community groups to develop and implement environmental projects.
•Plan, coordinate and oversee work by volunteers and ensure they are given the proper resources and training to complete tasks satisfactorily.
•Prepare work programmes and inform and oversee contractors to ensure that work is up to the necessary Standard.
•Undertake minor works such as erecting sinage, cutting vegetation and repairs to access furniture.
•Maintain and develop a good working relationship with co-workers, other authorities, external bodies and landowners.
•Responsibility to manage work budgets in accordance with the Council’s financial rules and conform with grant conditions.
•Arrange and hold various environmental events for the public such a guided walks, skills training and Dark Sky events.
•Represent the AONB Service at meetings and local events.
•Contribute to the preparation of interpretation and educational material to raise awareness of projects and environmental issues.
•Responsibility for self-development.
•Ensure compliance with Health and Safety rules in the workplace in accordance with the responsibilities noted in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Council’s Health and Safety Policy.
•Operate within the Council’s policies in relation to equal opportunities and equality.
•Responsible for managing information in accordance with the Council’s information management guidelines. Ensure that personal information is treated in accordance with Data Protection legislation.
•Commitment to reducing the Council’s carbon emissions in accordance with the Carbon Management Plan, and to encourage others to act positively towards reducing the Council’s Carbon Footprint.
•Undertake any other reasonable duty which corresponds to the salary level and responsibility level of the job.
•Responsibility to report any concern or suspicion that a child or vulnerable adult is being abused.
Special circumstances
•Possibly there will be a need to work on the odd weekend.
