Purpose of the post

Responsibility for functions
•Responsibility for vehicles and equipment.
Main duties
•Drive and be responsible for any vehicle used. The duties will include inspecting the vehicle, regular maintenance work such as changing oil and water level checks, cleaning streets, lands and other roads.
•To carry out, as an individual or member of a team, relevant duties to clean, collect and dispose of refuse, leaves and weeds, etc. from open spaces (including roads, pavements and shopping centres). The duties will include the use and operation of ancillary equipment.
•Be aware of the requirements of Health and Safety Acts and work with the Directorate’s Health and Safety and Quality Assurance Officer to ensure that we comply with the relevant Health and Safety requirements.
•This is an illustrative list only. The post holder will be expected to be part of the process of managing and monitoring performance in accordance with the requirements of the post and to implement any other duties in accordance with the nature of the post and its scale in accordance with the request of the Head of Service/Manager or the Strategic Director.
•Responsibility for self-development.
•Ensure compliance with Health and Safety rules in the workplace in accordance with the responsibilities noted in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Council’s Health and Safety Policy.
•Operate within the Council’s policies in relation to equal opportunities and equality.
•Responsible for managing information in accordance with the Council’s information management guidelines. Ensure that personal information is treated in accordance with Data Protection legislation.
•Commitment to reducing the Council’s carbon emissions in accordance with the Carbon Management Plan, and to encourage others to act positively towards reducing the Council’s Carbon Footprint.
•Undertake any other reasonable duty which corresponds to the salary level and responsibility level of the job.
•Responsibility to report any concern or suspicion that a child or vulnerable adult is being abused
Special circumstances
•The cleaning service is provided on bank holidays and the post-holder will be required to work on these days. An additional allowance will be paid.
•There will also be a requirement to work overtime on occasions including on Saturdays and Sundays.
