Purpose of the post
•Ensure that the people of Gwynedd are at the heart of everything we do.
•To contribute to the work of the team that provides translation services to the Council and its committees.
Responsibility for functions
•Simultaneous translation equipment (Sibrwd) as and when required
Main duties
•To translate written work to be presented to the Council committees and to the Council’s departments providing translations in the chosen form and style of the commissioner of the work.
•To check own work and work of other members of the team in order to ensure consistency regarding style, vocabulary etc.
•Proof read documents sent to the Translation Unit to ensure the suitability of style, vocabulary, correct use of language etc.
•To attend meetings during and outside normal working hours providing simultaneous translation services in those meetings.
•Transporting and setting up of the Council’s translation equipment (Sibrwd) as necessary when the Translation Equipment Technician is unavailable to set up the large translation equipment or when the location is unsuitable for the use of the large translation equipment.
•Respond to queries and advise officers and other service users on translations etc.
•Responsibility for self-development.
•Ensure compliance with Health and Safety rules in the workplace in accordance with the responsibilities noted in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Council’s Health and Safety Policy.
•Operate within the Council’s policies in relation to equal opportunities and equality.
•Responsible for managing information in accordance with the Council’s information management guidelines. Ensure that personal information is treated in accordance with Data Protection legislation.
•Commitment to reducing the Council’s carbon emissions in accordance with the Carbon Management Plan, and to encourage others to act positively towards reducing the Council’s Carbon Footprint.
•Undertake any other reasonable duty which corresponds to the salary level and responsibility level of the job.
•Responsibility to report any worry or suspicion that a child or vulnerable adult is being abused
Special circumstances
•The Department has both central and regional administration; one team serves both and post-holders of all positions in the department are expected to be flexible with regard to their work in this respect.
