Purpose of the Post. 
Receive experience and support in the workplace to complete an apprenticeship and gain qualifications in the field
To provide a support service to civil engineers within the Highways Service by contributing to the planning, maintenance and improvement of Gwynedd’s transport infrastructure, and by helping to ensure that projects and maintenance work are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with the Council’s standards.
 
Responsibility for Resources. e.g. staff, finances, Equipment
None, other than standard office equipment, e.g. a computer.
 
Main Duties. 
The main purpose of the service is to maintain, manage and improve Gwynedd’s essential transport infrastructure in order to ensure a safe, reliable and sustainable road network for residents, businesses and visitors.
The Highways Civil Engineering Apprentice role is a valuable opportunity for an apprentice to develop civil engineering skills by shadowing and supporting experienced engineers, while contributing to the planning, maintenance and improvement of Gwynedd’s essential infrastructure.
The main duties of the role will be to:
Gain experience of working in the three operational areas (Arfon, Dwyfor and Meirionnydd) through rotating between areas of the county.
Identify and understand the operational activities and priorities of each area over a period of approximately 8 months each.
Support local teams in delivering the Highways Service work programmes.
Shadowing Area Engineers to learn about the planning, management and delivery of maintenance works and infrastructure projects.
Develop an understanding of how the service’s work is coordinated across the county.
Take part in practical tasks related to road and infrastructure maintenance.
Follow the Council’s policies on health and safety, equality, data protection and carbon reduction.
