Ysgol Uwchradd Tywyn is a rural school located in Tywyn, South Gwynedd. At present, there are 374 learners in the school. The school has a caring, family atmosphere with inclusion central to everything.
The school offers a special opportunity for an individual through the partnership PGCE route (2 years), fully funded by the Welsh Government through delivery by the Open University. The successful candidate will be teaching Mathematics. The school is fully committed to supporting the Welsh Government’s campaign to increase the number of Welsh speakers in Wales.
The programme is aimed at graduates who are either currently working and wish to change career, or who have past experience working in an environment with children and young people. This may include teaching assistants and learning coaches who wish to progress in their career, as well as youth officers. Applications are also welcomed from candidates in their final year of university.
We are looking for an individual who is passionate about supporting the school’s vision and making a significant difference in the education and lives of our young people. The postholder will receive full support from the school as they develop to become a successful educator.
PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION
- A qualification equivalent to GCSE Grade C or above in Mathematics or Mathematics‑Numeracy
- A qualification equivalent to GCSE Grade C or above in either English Language or Welsh First Language
- A full honours degree in the UK (or equivalent). If you wish to teach as a secondary school teacher (learners aged 12–16), your degree must contain at least 50% relevance to the subject. For applicants applying for Welsh as a subject, the degree does not necessarily need to be in that field if you can demonstrate fluent language use.
- Applicants must be available to commit to a full‑time contract (not only during term time) until July 2028 and will be required to be based at the school from Monday to Friday.
- The PGCE route is a 2‑year programme.
