Purpose of Job .
Assist in the delivery of effective public library services including library provision for adults , children and young people, individually and in groups, to include administrative tasks to assist in the delivery of library services to users of Bangor Library.
Responsibility for Resources . . eg staff, finance, equipment
Staff: casual / temporary staff Stock; stock condition of adults and children Equipment: safe use of furniture, computer equipment etc. Money: Keeping simple 'imprest' accounts and banking money. Invoicing as required
Main Responsibilities . .
1 . Putting the people of Gwynedd at the forefront of everything we do.
2. Loaning items, collecting fines and other charges related to the borrowing of library resources
3. Shelve items and keep the library in an orderly and tidy condition.
4. Assist users with holds, notify users of holds arrivals, process holds. Search for items on request and process items.
5. Register new users and update library member records.
6. Keep a simple account of the number of library event attendees.
7. Assist users with access to Public Computers, use of scanner, photocopier or other public resources available in the library
8. Answer queries by phone or email and direct queries and calls to other staff and / or take messages.
9. Assist with organizing book exhibitions and maintaining up to date notice boards.
10. Assess the condition of library stock and return untidy, out of date, defective or in need of repair.
11. Maintain and organize current magazines and newspapers in the library
12. Rotate suitable stock between service points as scheduled.
13. Signpost users to Gwynedd Library services including digital services, Gwynedd Council Services and answer user queries for general information.
14. Assist in room hire for individuals or groups. Take names for library activities and keep a reserve list. Contact users to confirm or cancel events .
15. Assist with closing and opening the library, setting the security alarm in the absence of the caretaker or staff in charge as required.
16. To attend staff meetings and training as required and directed.
17. Dealing with a wide range of library users including users who may be challenging or difficult.
18. Assist with user surveys and questionnaires as required.
19. Report IT problems
20. Have the opportunity to participate and support story times and support public library events.
21.Attend training and personal development sessions as required and directed.
22. Attend other Library Service, Departmental teams or working groups in conjunction with external services / agencies as required.
23. To ensure compliance with Health and Safety rules in accordance with the responsibilities set out in the 'Health and Safety at Work Act 1974' and the Council's Health and Safety Policy stating that this is the responsibility of all staff in the performance of their duties to consumers and visitors.

25. To act within the Council's policy and procedures in relation to equal opportunities and equality .
26. Comply with Gwynedd Council's Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults policy and guidelines being the responsibility of all employees to be aware of their responsibilities relating to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults issues.
27.Responsibility for safe handling of data in accordance with the Council's Data Management policy and guidelines. To ensure that personal information is treated in compliance with Data Protection legislation.
28 . Commitment to reducing the Council's carbon emissions in line with the Carbon Management Plan and to encourage others to take positive action towards reducing the Council's carbon footprint.
29. Undertake any other equivalent and reasonable duties, commensurate with the salary and responsibility level of the post .
Special Circumstances . eg need to work unsociable hours, special working arrangements, etc.
Some of the working hours will fall regularly on Saturdays or evenings and in accordance with the Library staff rota.
Hours of Work: 27.5 hours per basic week with the possibility of additional hours as required. The right to change the pattern of working hours is held according to the requirements of the Service. The post holder will be expected to qualify to the appropriate level in relation to the use of information technology. Training is provided as required.
The main site of work will be Caernarfon Library but if necessary, a temporary arrangement may be reached whereby the post holder performs similar duties in other libraries, within his contracted hours, without any extra time or payment for that work, other than travelling costs.
The working hours follow a 2 week rota:
Week A - Mon 9:00 – 12:00 (3), Tues 12:00 – 16:00 (4), Wed 12:30 – 17:00 (4.5), Thur 9:30 – 18:00 (8), Fri 9:00 – 17:00 (7.5)
Week B - Wed 9:00 – 17:00 (7.5), Thur 9:00 – 18:00 (8.5), Fri 9:00 – 17:00 (7.5), Sat 9:00 – 13:00 (4)
