Routinely undertake, as part of a work team, the cleaning of specified parts on the school site to ensure that they are kept clean and in a condition that will promote health.

Main Duties
General
In consultation with the Area Contract Manager to be responsible for ordering cleaning materials.
Cleaning a defined area of the site and locking the site after the cleaning period. Supervise the cleaning staff on site. This is to include the certification of worksheets.
Daily Tasks
Unlock all gates and turn off the alarm system. Unlock all entrance doors and all classroom doors half an hour before the establishment opens in the morning as per the Principal's instructions.
During heating periods as named by the Principal, ensure that the heating system is working at the right level to ensure that the required temperature is reached by the opening time of the establishment.
Where the heating system is controlled by an automated timing machine, ensure that the system functions as required before opening the establishment.
Report to the Principal any defects or irregularities observed in individual heaters or in the overall heating system.
Clean and clear all rubbish that makes the place look uncluttered or potentially hazardous, e.g. empty tins, crushed glass or bottles, from all porches and hard areas around the building, before workers arrive on the premises.
Order and distribute paper towels, toilet paper rolls and liquid hand soap through the establishment as required.
Report to the Headteacher of any damage found to have been caused to school property, defects in fittings or leaky drains etc which cannot be dealt with.
At the time of closure of the establishment, ensure that all lights are switched off on central heating heaters/systems installed ready to work if required, as appropriate for the weather conditions.
Ensure that combustible materials are not too close to heaters etc.
Close and lock the main gates as appropriate at the end of the day.
Occasional Tasks
Keep drain traps and gutters in clean condition and clean grease traps weekly.
Empty the rubbish bins that are outside and put the rubbish in plastic bags and dispose of it as with car rubbish outside the building. Install new plastic bags in each bin, if provided. Empty blue recycle boxes and recycle bins that have been provided.
To monitor the use of electricity, gas and water^r by means of whatever procedure may be adopted by the Council. The current arrangement involves recording the reading of each relevant meter each month and calculating how much is used each month on special recording cards.
Keep boiler buildings in a clean and tidy condition and ensure that they do not contain combustible materials.
Keep all hard surface play areas, parking areas, paths and lanes, petroleum gas stores etc free of loose stone weeds and clean all rubbish e.g. glass, tins and bottles, paper or other rubbish, leaves, grass clippings etc and keep them in tidy condition. Clear snow as appropriate and spread rock salt to keep access points safe during snow or ice.  Rock salt is provided by the School.
Install new fluorescent fixture light bulbs if able for the job.
Opening and closing for evening activities on mutual understanding.
To undertake minor repairs e.g. boarding broken windows if able to carry out the work.
To undertake weekly work of testing fire appliances, taps, showers and water "sprinklers" if applicable.
Responsibility for self-development.  
Ensure compliance with Health and Safety rules in the workplace in accordance with the responsibilities noted in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Council’s Health and Safety Policy.
Operate within the Council’s policies in relation to equal opportunities and equality.
Responsible for managing information in accordance with the Council’s information management guidelines. Ensure that personal information is treated in accordance with Data Protection legislation.
Commitment to reducing the Council’s carbon emissions in accordance with the Carbon Management Plan, and to encourage others to act positively towards reducing the Council’s Carbon Footprint.
Undertake any other reasonable duty which corresponds to the salary level and responsibility level of the job.
Responsibility to report any concern or suspicion that a child or vulnerable adult is being abused.
