Job Description
Purpose of the post
•Ensure that the people of Gwynedd are at the heart of everything we do.
•TEAM PURPOSE – ‘Support the family to enable the child to develop and reach their full potential’
•To work with Flying Start /Families First, Families that have children identified with additional learning needs
•Conduct basic skills, family support, play and communication, sessions on a regular basis with families individuallly or as a group.

Main duties
•Conduct one to one sessions with families, either within the home or in a local location, based on a structured plan that has been agreed with the referrer. Work with parents to support their children’s needs.
•Implement an Individual development Plan which puts the child and family centrally, working alongside the ALN legislation.
•Conduct thorough assessments to identify children’s strengths and weaknesses and to design an intervention together with the family to support with these needs. To use skills, training and specialist experience when supporting parents and their children, using ELKLAN, PORTAGE and WELLCOMM and ‘Parent and child interaction’ and other principles, in groups and one to one.
•Monitor each family and child’s progress, by writing and reviewing reports and plans regularly to support the needs of the family, and working alongside the ALN legislation.
•Offer information to parents about varied agencies, so when needed you are able to refer the family on.
•Communicate effectively with parents.
•Support parents to develop their skills enabling them to support their child’s development.
•Responsibility to attend Family meetings to report, review, and measure progress and to discuss individual family plans.
•Collaborate with childcare settings to transfer children effectively by sharing information about Individual development Plan targets and to offer expertise by mentoring staff supporting new children on delivering an effective plan for the child’s individual needs.
•Arrange and conduct activities as noted in the Speech, language and communication guidance. Ensuring that the team offer an annual programme of groups in cooperation with the Senior Development and Play worker, and other partners by.
•Coordinate, arrange and monitor the grant spent to promote Flying start ‘Family Fun’ activities.
•Identifying appropriate locations (if needed) to run new sessions, and to complete risk assessments when needed.
•Identify the appropriate staff and agree on full commitment to run courses, e.g. Health visitors, Mudiad Meithrin, Library Service, Families First, Speech and Language therapists, etc.
•Collaborate to identify appropriate parents/ carers and marketing session locally.
•Choose and prepare resources that are necessary to lead play activities, bringing attention to the service users by attending to the parents/ guardian interests, their language, background and cultural background.
•Demonstrate resources carefully in their locations and to promote an appropriate atmosphere for the ages.
•Collect feedback regarding the groups and plays sessions via questionnaires, and collating information regarding successes and difficulties, and working with the Team to introduce any new developments.
•Keeping a record and data of every session by producing a statistical breakdown, of monitoring and performance reports.
•Present information cataloguing resources, present reports to the Senior workers, and order as and when needed.
•Sustaining specialised resources, to verify safety, undertake specialised changes when needed.
•Comply with Child Protection procedures and to report when necessary.
•Attend team meeting, supervisions and working group meetings within the Early Development Unit when necessary.
•Support, co work and help colleagues working on the programme to co deliver sessions, and implement visits in family’s homes.
•Responsibility for self-development.
•Ensure compliance with Health and Safety rules in the workplace in accordance with the responsibilities noted in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Council’s Health and Safety Policy.
•Operate within the Council’s policies in relation to equal opportunities and equality.
•Responsible for managing information in accordance with the Council’s information management guidelines. Ensure that personal information is treated in accordance with Data Protection legislation.
•Commitment to reducing the Council’s carbon emissions in accordance with the Carbon Management Plan, and to encourage others to act positively towards reducing the Council’s Carbon Footprint.

Special circumstances
