Purpose of the post
•Ensure that the people of Gwynedd are at the heart of everything we do.
•To ensure that the physical and emotional welfare of the tenants are met by operating their individual Life Plans.
•To ensure that a comfortable and clean environment is maintained in the home. This to be done by following the Council’s guidelines and policies. This is a tenant lead service.
Responsibility for functions
•To understand that the responsibility towards the tenants with regard to their wellbeing, finances, personal care lies with the post holder; and to ensure a high standard of care is adhered to at all times.
•The post holder will have a moral responsibility to promote the service in a positive manner at all times.
Main duties
•To ensure that the dignity and independence of the tenant are respected through good care practices and in accordance with the National Minimum Standards and Regulations (e.g. CSSIW).
•To be responsible for maintaining the nature of the service required for every tenant daily.
•To assist the tenant to create and maintain a comfortable home, and to use the community facilities that are available.
•To assist tenants to develop both their housekeeping, life and social skills, e.g. shopping, cooking, healthy eating, ironing etc, deciding on a budget, washing clothes, and establishing a social network.
•To be sensitive to the need of the tenants and to respect the rights of individuals at all times.
•To maintain confidentiality on all aspects of the work.
•To be part of the process to plan, prepare, implement and review the individual’s Life Plan.
•To promote a safe and secure environment for the tenants.
•To be responsible for key duties as directed by the Line Manager in accordance with the Life Plans and where relevant attend review meetings, case conferences and contribute written and oral reports on the tenants, as and when required.
•To undertake the task of receiving and distributing medicine in accordance with the Council’s Administration and Control of medicines Policy.
•To undertake all duties involving housekeeping, personal care and general life style of the tenants to a level where they are accustomed to.
•Where possible to encourage and involve tenants to prepare healthy nutritious meals/snacks and drinks when required.
•To attend regular training courses and complete QCF Level 2 in particular to ensure a consistent awareness of care issues.
•To attend meetings in accordance with the guidance of the Line Manager.
•To attend at least 4 team meetings per year (Essential).
•All risk assessments that are linked to the workplace must be read, understood, signed and dated.
•The ‘Staff Handbook’ is to be read, understood, signed, and dated on the commencement of your employment.
•To familiarise with implementing the Council’s policies, procedures and guidelines regarding good practices and matters involving Health and Safety.
•To undertake any tasks which are appropriate and reasonable to the post according to the Line Manager and which are in the interests and development of the tenants.
•Responsibility for self-development.
•Ensure compliance with Health and Safety rules in the workplace in accordance with the responsibilities noted in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Council’s Health and Safety Policy.
•Operate within the Council’s policies in relation to equal opportunities and equality.
•Responsible for managing information in accordance with the Council’s information management guidelines. Ensure that personal information is treated in accordance with Data Protection legislation.
•Commitment to reducing the Council’s carbon emissions in accordance with the Carbon Management Plan, and to encourage others to act positively towards reducing the Council’s Carbon Footprint.
•Undertake any other reasonable duty which corresponds to the salary level and responsibility level of the job.
•Responsibility to report any concern or suspicion that a child or vulnerable adult is being abused.
Special circumstances
The Supported Housing service provides a 24 hours a day service in accordance with the assessed needs of the Tenants.
Depending on the requirements of the house and day services attended by the tenants.
•The working day environment of the house starts at 7am or 7:30am and concludes at 10:30pm or 11pm which can also include split shifts. It is essential that staff are able to start at 7am and whenever the shifts starts thereafter to be available to work until 11pm at night when the sleep in shift starts.
•Weekend Work – To work a maximum of 3 per 4 weeks rota; dependant on the structure of the rota.
•Sleep In – You will be required to work a minimum of 2 sleep ins per 4 weeks rota.
•You may be required to work Bank Holidays, Public Holidays, Christmas, Easter.
To be aware that the service cannot fall short of its goal at times of need when such circumstances arise i.e.:-
(a) Environmental (e.g. snow, flooding etc).
(b) Health (e.g. high sickness levels).
•During such times you will be expected to remain in the house until the situation is resolved.
•Due to the nature of the service, there will be unforeseen circumstances that may require staff to remain in the place of work until suitable cover is found.
