Purpose of the post
•Ensure that the people of Gwynedd are at the heart of everything we do.
•Prepare recycling materials for the next step in the recycling process
Responsibility for functions
•Responsible for vehicles and plant relevant to the service.
Main duties
•To work as an individual or part of a team to undertake duties associated with the disposal of waste and recycling from domestic and commercial properties.
•Duties to include:
•Opening of site, daily checks and locking site at night.
•Cleaning and conducting daily checks and upkeep of all relevant plant and machinery to include conveyor and the reporting of defects as soon as possible.
•Utilising a computerised system to control the various conveyors and prioritise which items are to be treated first.
•Drive any vehicle or plant associated with the service i.e. forklift truck, tele handler.
•Ensure that the site is kept clean and tidy at all times which includes the cleaning of the interceptors.
•Accept recycling lorries to site, traffic management and coordinate the correct emptying procedures.
•Liaise with weighbridge.
•Guide artic vehicles to site and coordinate loading procedures.
•As and when required, assist with refuse disposal duties at the refuse transfer station.
•Other duties to include covering members of staff on civic amenity sites and driving pick up vehicles to various sites.
•A requirement of the post is to deal with paperwork, transfer notes, etc. with the ability to operate in Welsh and English.
•Responsibility to protect the safety of self, co-workers and members of the public.
•Responsibility for self-development.
•Ensure compliance with Health and Safety rules in the workplace in accordance with the responsibilities noted in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Council’s Health and Safety Policy.
•Operate within the Council’s policies in relation to equal opportunities and equality.
•Responsible for managing information in accordance with the Council’s information management guidelines. Ensure that personal information is treated in accordance with Data Protection legislation.
•Commitment to reducing the Council’s carbon emissions in accordance with the Carbon Management Plan, and to encourage others to act positively towards reducing the Council’s Carbon Footprint.
•Undertake any other reasonable duty which corresponds to the salary level and responsibility level of the job.
•Responsibility to report any concern or suspicion that a child or vulnerable adult is being abused.
Special circumstances
•The Municipal Sites operate on all Bank Holidays. It will be necessary for the post holder to work on these days.
•The post holder will be expected to work 12.33 hour shifts over 6 days every other week.
