This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an innovative project within the Council in the field of child protection. 'Effective Child Protection' is a practice model that is being developed in Gwynedd and and is being implemented in several other Local Authorities. A key part of the work is the role of the Practice Mentor.
As a Practice Mentor you will provide training and deliver practice mentoring interventions on a one to one basis and in groups. You will use established methods as well as develop new ways of working in this field of work. Practice Mentoring itself is an emerging field. It is a role that is developing nationally and this job is an opportunity to create, experiment and evaluate motivational and mentoring interventions in the field of social work.
You will be a practice champion in Gwynedd, in North Wales and beyond, offering training, supervision and support as other Authorities adopt this model of working.
The successful candidate will be expected to be registered as a Social Worker with the Care Council for Wales, with a good understanding of, and be experienced in the field of child protection and in developing their motivation and mentoring skills.

Job Description
Purpose of the post
•Ensure that the people of Gwynedd are at the heart of everything we do.
•Ensure that children in Gwynedd are protected from harm
•Ensure that children in Gwynedd are protected in the most effective manner through transforming practice
•Realise the benefits of the 'Effective Child Protection' project for various shareholders and throughout the span of the project
•Be a practice champion for the 'Effective Child Protection' (ECP) project
•Steer and support the project to model transformation in the practice of child protection on a local level in the first instance
•Produce a model that has been trialled for the North Wales region's Head of Children's Departments and on behalf of the six counties in the region.
•Provide an evaluation that proves the value of the practice model for shareholders
•Develop products that could be introduced to other Authorities within the region, and then with the potential of rolling it out nationally.

Main duties
Innovate and lead on practice:
•Provide intervention that is in-keeping and complies fully with the Child Protection Guidelines, legislation and other regulations; demonstrating an understanding and expertise in the field whilst innovating in practice.
•Provide a practice mentoring service for 'Effective Child Protection' (ECP) on an individual level with social workers, senior practitioners, team managers, child protection co-ordinator, senior managers within the Gwynedd Children's Services.
•Provide practice development sessions on 'Effective Child Protection' (ECP) for staff within the Children's Services including social workers, senior practitioners, team managers, child protection co-ordinator, senior managers within the Gwynedd Children's Services. This will be on an individual session basis, as well as group sessions.
•Provide an internal specialist advisory service for the Children’s Services on 'Collaborative Conversations'
•Provide an internal specialist advisory service for the Children’s Services on the Risk Model
•Provide an internal specialist advisory service for the Children’s Services on the 'Effective Child Protection' (ECP) model.
•Provide social work practice interventions in special circumstances to meet the needs of the innovation project, including chairing (if suitable), attending or observing Child Protection Conferences, core groups or professional meetings.
•Work in a manner that is in-keeping with the attributes of 'Effective Child Protection' (ECP) e.g. communicate co-operatively in order to model the change for staff.
Project:
•Work under the leadership of the Safeguarding and Quality Senior Manager as the Project Leader.
•Produce, co-produce, develop and refine project outputs in accordance with the Project Plan
•Provide information to users and shareholders on a local, regional and national level through various methods
•Provide, develop and produce project communication materials
•Provide, develop and produce project training materials
•Act as part of the Project Team, for the Project Plan
•Act in accordance with the principles of Ffordd Gwynedd
•Communicate effectively with internal and external experts in the field, advisers and trainers
•Commission research and evaluations, produce and analyse data and information in order to prove the model value
•Develop relevant skills for the project, for example mentoring skills

•Responsibility for self-development.
