Purpose of the post
• Ensure that the people of Gwynedd are at the heart of everything we do.
• To offer flexible and reliable support services to disabled children and young people and children who are ill and
their families (service users). This support is to enable the children to access leisure facilities or to offer respite to
their families.
Responsibility for functions
•Treat the service users’ equipment and posessions with respect and care during the sessions
Main duties
•To support the service user and enable him/her to take part in activities as required by the care plan.
•To undertake personal care of the service user when required.
•To offer a flexible support service to the family including siblings.
•Work flexible hours during weekends and school holidays with possibility of extra hours if the candidate wishes.
•To transport the service user to and from their residence to the activity.
•Show respect to the child and his/her family considering their rights and independence.
•To respect the sevice users’ property and equipment at all times.
•Maintain confidentiality at all times.
•Contribute in the process of planning and reviewing the service user’s programme where appropriate.
•Attend training courses and supervision sessions.
•Take part in group activities where appropriate.
•Complete weekly timesheets and reports promptly.
•Undertake any tasks relating to the job as directed by the support services officer or manager.
•Familiarise with the council’s policies and guidelines regarding good practice.
•Follow Health and safety guidelines at all times
•Being aware of the requirements of Health and Safety Legislation and co-operating with the Health and Safety Advisor of the Directorate to ensure conformity with the relevant Health and Safety requirements.
•The Council is implementing a continuous programme of training and personal development as well as an Appraisal process that contributes towards this, it is expected that the post holder conforms with this.
•This is only an outline list. It is expected that the post holder takes part in the process of management and performance monitoring in accordance with the requirements of the post and to implement any other duties in line with the nature and grade of the post in accordance with the request of the Head of Service/Manager or the Strategic Director.
•Responsibility for self-development.
•Ensure compliance with Health and Safety rules in the workplace in accordance with the responsibilities noted in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Council’s Health and Safety Policy.
•Operate within the Council’s policies in relation to equal opportunities and equality.
•Responsible for managing information in accordance with the Council’s information management guidelines. Ensure that personal information is treated in accordance with Data Protection legislation.
•Commitment to reducing the Council’s carbon emissions in accordance with the Carbon Management Plan, and to encourage others to act positively towards reducing the Council’s Carbon Footprint.
•Undertake any other reasonable duty which corresponds to the salary level and responsibility level of the job.
•Responsibility to report any worry or suspicion that a child or vulnerable adult is being abused
Special circumstances
•The work will be at weekends and school holidays but if candidates wish for extra work during term time it will be possible to consider further hours.
•A full driving license and use of a car is essential.
