Job Description
Purpose of the post
•Ensure that the people of Gwynedd are at the heart of everything we do.
•Promote and support a healthy lifestyle for those who use the Leisure Centre and the wider community.
•Ensure that those who visit the Centre can use it safely, whilst offering a high standard of customer care.
•Responsible for the day to day running of the Centre.
Responsibility for functions
•The Duty Manager will be responsible for handling money, recording the money taken, and banking the money and takings safely.
•Assist in reaching targets in relation to income, expenditure and use.
•Ensure that an effective and efficient staffing level is maintained at all times. The Duty Manager will contribute towards the recruitment process within the Centre, and ensure that the staff will be trained through induction, training and continual development.
•Designate the Duty Manager as a trainer/assessor for the Centre.
•Ensure that safe supervision of the swimming pool is maintained and that the pool's plant is monitored, tested and effectively managed, regularly.
•Ensure that the facilities and equipment are prepared and maintained to a high standard by preparing planned schedules on cleaning, maintenance, testing and repairing, giving priority to health and safety regulations.
•Undertake the role of Duty Manager, being responsible for ensuring that the staff and the public use the facilities and equipment safely, and being responsible for the security of facilities, equipment, stock and money whilst taking care of keys, including being called out in an emergency.
•Ensure that safe supervision of the swimming pool is undertaken and that the pool's plant are monitored, tested and effectively managed, regularly.
Main duties
•Assist the Area Manager in providing an innovative and creative programme of activities. The post holder will also be responsible for communicating with the Marketing Officer in order to ensure the best possible publicity for the programme. Take a practical role in presenting the programme when needed, including being a lifeguard and giving activities training.
•Undertake the duties of managing staff members, and inspire them to meet their full potential.
•Be a role model for the Centre's staff and encourage them to solve their own problems in the workplace.
•Prepare reports for the Area Manager.
•Hold staff appraisal sessions in accordance with the Company's policies.
•The Duty Manager will be involved with arranging the Centre Management teams as needed.
•Ensure that new staff follow the department's induction procedure.
•Ensure that all the procedures and administrative records are maintained at all times, including reception details, staff and customers, income and expenditure, stock lists, salaries, annual leave, etc.
•Ensure that machines and equipment are working correctly, and inform of any faults.
•Ensure that all staff receive training/information regarding their duties in terms of everything regarding health and safety. This will include ensuring that all emergency action plans and the usual action procedures are adhered to, as well as ensuring that the facilities are operated in accordance with all appropriate health and safety legislation.
•Ensure that the induction procedure in the gym is of high standard and motivates customers to return to the Centre regularly.
•Promote the Centre's fitness packages to the customers as well as converting initial conversations with customers into sales.
•Engage with the customers in order to identify their aims and wishes regarding following a healthy lifestyle.
•Work with the marketing officer to promote the centre, encouraging staff to share ideas and take part in marketing activities.
•Engage with the customers and prospective customers in order to identify which marketing techniques are most effective to use.
•Undertake reception responsibilities as required
•Ensure a high standard of customer care, promoting the relationship between the Centre and the customer at all times.
•Ensure that the Centre's cleanliness is of high standard, in accordance with the Centre's guidelines.
•Ensure that the public are supervised safely in a polite and courteous way.
•Ensure the prosperity of the Centre by offering feedback and new ideas on how to improve the service.
•Engage with customers that are on special programmes within the Centre, e.g NERS, in order to ensure that the continuation after completing the programme is seamless for the customer.
•Promote the Welsh language within the Centre by using the language as the first language in the workplace.
•Undertake any other reasonable duty which corresponds to the salary and responsibility levels of the job.
•Display Gwynedd Company's values in the workplace at all times.

Special circumstances
•Take part in the Centre's Training Programme when needed and be responsible for updating qualifications in order to ensure they are current.
•The post-holder should be flexible about work pattern/shifts.
•There will be a need to work shifts including work in the evening and on weekends.
•The Department operates a continuous programme of training and personal skills development. An Appraisal Plan will be implemented in order to contribute towards this provision. The post-holder will be expected to participate in the programme.
