Purpose of the post
•Ensure that the people of Gwynedd are at the heart of everything we do.
•Provide support to refugee families who have resettled in Gwynedd, assisting them to maintain a tenancy, providing support and advice to become independent and self-sufficient, and helping them to integrate into the community.

Main duties
•Support refugees to resettle by providing information and appropriate advice.
•Work closely with a translator to overcome language barriers.
•Help to promote independence, coping and understanding of life in the UK and adapting to a different culture.
•Develop and implement support plans for refugees, and monitor and review them regularly in order to report to the Line Manager.
•Provide practical support to the refugees on a regular basis, through home visits or by telephone, to help them get to know the community, learn the language and maintain their tenancy.
•Help the refugees to contact, register and make relevant arrangements for the property with service providers such as water, gas, and electricity, and assist families to understand their responsibilities and how to fund them.
•Register with the Department of Work and Pensions, as required, and provide as much help as possible with benefits, along with managing budgets and debts and referring to specialist support.
•Provide support and advice with regards to budgets.
•Register and support individuals to attend ESOL provision within a month of their arrival.
•Help to register with a local doctor and dentist.
•Support and refer individuals to work and volunteering opportunities.
•Help to manage time, keep to timetables and medical/dental, health, and the Department of Work and Pensions appointments.
•Identify and support individuals to overcome obstacles they face as they integrate into their community.
•Identify and organise any further support that is needed.
•Work without supervision in the field with vulnerable individuals, and deal with sensitive matters and situations.
•Understand and respect varying religious and cultural backgrounds.
•Keep detailed and current records of the support provided on the files of individuals and report to the Line Manager.
•Ensure that the service provided complies with the conditions of the Home Office's Refugee Resettlement plan.
•Encourage and support individuals on the programme to live lives as full and as independently as possible within their local community, by providing information and appropriate practical support.
•Ensure compliance with any risk management assessment arrangements that are relevant to the work.
•Provide an initial cash allowance for each beneficiary, this is to ensure that they have enough money to live on while their benefit claim is being processed.
•Monitor and record financial transactions and information for reporting and auditing purposes for Gwynedd Council and the Home Office.
•Responsibility for self-development.
•Ensure compliance with Health and Safety rules in the workplace in accordance with the responsibilities noted in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Council’s Health and Safety Policy.
•Operate within the Council’s policies in relation to equal opportunities and equality.
•Responsible for managing information in accordance with the Council’s information management guidelines. Ensure that personal information is treated in accordance with Data Protection legislation.
•Commitment to reducing the Council’s carbon emissions in accordance with the Carbon Management Plan, and to encourage others to act positively towards reducing the Council’s Carbon Footprint.
•Undertake any other reasonable duty which corresponds to the salary level and responsibility level of the job.
•Responsibility to report any concern or suspicion that a child or vulnerable adult is being abused.
Special circumstances
•The post-holder will be required to work flexible days/hours, as required.
•The post-holder will be required to work unsociable hours and on weekends, as required.
