Social Workers (AMHP) PS4 (£38,890- £40,876)(plus 16.12% unsociable hours and on-call allowance)
This post Works on a rota system to cover the hours outside of the usual office hours. The applicant will need to be a registered social worker and an approved Mental Health practitioner (AMHP). If not already AMHP, the applicant will need to be willing to act as an AMHP and complete appropriate training course at a Masters level as to meet the requirement in the contract of employment. It is therefore necessary that the applicant has the academic ability to work to a Masters level.
Gwynedd Council operates internally through the medium of Welsh, and offers all its services bilingually. The applicant will be required to reach the linguistic level noted in the Person Specification.

Job Description
Location: Hergest Unit, Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor
Purpose of the Post
The purpose of the service is to:
•Provide an emergency response service to care crisis outside of normal working hours for Gwynedd and Anglesey Councils.
•Ensure that children and vulnerable adults are protected from harm.
Responsibility for functions . e.g. staff, budgets, equipment:
Responsibility for equipment: mobile phone, laptop etc.
Main Duties
•To operate as a Social Worker (RSW) and Accredited Mental Health Professional Worker (AMHP) in the Out of Hours Team
•Qualified to operate as a Registered Social Worker and as an Accredited Mental Health Professional Worker (AMHP) (or qualified and undertaking Accredited Mental Health Professional Worker Training) by maintaining your professional status through post qualifying training and regular supervision.
•Qualified through training to do undertake safeguarding work, including ability to undertake joint investigation into child abuse.
•Comply with the Professional Social Work Practice Code and the Practice Guidance for Registered Social Workers.
•Operating legally and safely and providing an emergency care service for Gwynedd Council and Anglesey Council (The Partnership)
•Providing a direct access to Social Work Service in an emergency.
•Providing a service for individuals, families and the community within a legal framework and the relevant practice guidance for children and adults in compliance of the operating arrangements of the Out of Hours Service.
•Investigate, assess and operate to support individuals out of normal hours, including statutory proceedings to safeguard vulnerable adults and children at risk of harm.
•Offering appropriate advice to the public, agencies or local authority staff.
•Collaborate with relevant professional workers in the statutory and voluntary sector in order to fulfil the role effectively.
•Offer advice and consult with colleagues in area teams, outside of usual work hours where this is appropriate.
•Record intervention proceedings within the usual procedure and systems of the Out of Hours Team.
•Provide a report / feedback for every request for service that is received, for example to the relevant workers within the areas, other Authorities or other relevant agencies. This is done through the recording arrangements and recognized documentation within the Out of Hours Team.
•To comply with the work pattern that is set by the team manager in compliance with the framework and the service standards.
•Operating in compliance with the legislation and relevant practice guidance for example Mental Health Measure 2010(Wales), The Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014 and its code of practices.
•Operating in compliance with the arrangements for appropriate use of the service’s and Partnership resources.
•Attend training courses, supervision sessions and relevant meetings as required.
•Inform the Team Manager about cases and situations that raises key policy questions or which causes serious problems to the department (or Partners) so that management guidance is given or policies developed.
•Responsible for self-development by undertaking relevant learning and development to maintain and improve your information and skills to ensure that you are suitable to practice.
•Comply with the Health and Safety rules of the workplace in compliance of the responsibilities noted in the Health and Safety in the Workplace Act 1974 and the Council’s Health and Safety Policy.
•Taking reasonable care for your health and safety and others that could be effected by your actions by complying with every appropriate health and safety legislation. This includes informing your employer or relevant authority about any personal difficulties that could effect on your ability to do your work competent and safely.
•To contribute to the work of the Team Manager when they evaluate and review the team’s standards, develop the service and general work to provide an efficient service.
•To provide work statistics regularly to the Team Manager and any other necessary information as requested.
•To represent the team in meetings as requested by the Team Manager, Senior Managers or Partners.
•To attend team meetings by preparing and contribute as needed.
•To be accountable, through supervision and the line management for your practice as a member of the Out of Hours Team.
•Operating within the Council’s policies in terms of equal opportunities and equality
•Offering guidance and professional leadership on social work for newly qualified workers or less qualified workers.
