LETTER from R.T. Jones, North Wales Quarrymen’s Union, Caernarfon to members, re state of the Slate Industry "93% of the slate output of the U.K. is produced in our area - activity in house building during last few years created brisk demand for our output, and gave foreign producers extra opportunity to get into our Home markets. Foreign roofing materials are of poor quality and are produced under sweated conditions. The Low standard of life in foreign countries is given by salesmen as one of the two reasons why they are able to sell their slates cheaply - most inferior slates have been used in your City (Caernarfon) which is likely to be a paradise for the jobbing slater in a few years time".
