LETTER: Hugh Manley, at the Woods Hotel, to Lord Newborough. Manley writes that the Porthdinllaen Railway is on its feet again. The standing orders have been dispensed with and it is now up to the Board of Trade to give the project the go-ahead. Manley, however, is still convinced the final Bill will not be passed, since several leading engineers have calculated that the line will cost three times as much as estimated. Manley alludes briefly to the proposed Bridge over the Menai, saying he hopes to get the Admiralty Report that evening, or the following day. At the end of his letter Manley states that David Williams’ bill of costs for the Porthdinllaen railway is already £3,000.
