LETTER: Farrars and Co., Lincoln’s Inn Fields, London, to George Bettiss, Caernarfon, informing him that the guardians could not be justified in fitting up the repairing of the Tower without the prospect of a much higher rent than interest upon the money laid out. They would willingly concur in permitting it to be occupied as a school rent free, as it then stood. The guardians did not wish to take an active part in the elections but wished that Lord Bulkeley or his interest should have the benefit of Lord Newborough’s influence. The guardians would subscribe £50 towards the Market House which he could draw on them for. They ask him to tell the tenants not to do anything with regards to the gate erected by Mr. Assheton Smith. They would bring an action for obstructing the road but the tenant must submit to the inconvenience. [N.L.W. Glynllivon 2986]
