LETTER: [Archdeacon] R[ichard] Newcome, Llanrhaidr [Llanrhaeadr] Vicrage, nr. Rhyl, to Lord [Newborough] re the Goodman trusteeship, stating that it was his Lordship’s right to exercise as he wished. He himself was no longer a trustee, having resigned the office of warden of Ruthin. He had been to see John Jones, the agent, re his Lordship’s complaint. He drew his Lordship’s attention to the Goodman Pedigree which he had had drawn up. The present Bishop of Gloucester had usurped the valuable living of ?Kemerton from the Welsh claimants and put in his Chaplain Archdeacon Thorpe. The corporation of Gloucester had decided to give the living to Rev. Rice Hughes, brother of the M.P.. When the Welsh Judicature was abolished the Act of Parliament provided for the substitution of two persons in lieu of judges of the Chester Circuit and the present two were F. West, Esq., Ruthin Castle and Rev. E. Thelwall, rector of Llanbedr. He discusses the changes which are proposed in the charity, of which he disapproves, especially as they would affect the Grammar School, Ruthin. [N.L.W. Glynllivon 2350]
