LETTER: William Elias, The Abbey, [Llanrwst, Denbighshire], to Lord [Newborough]; he has been in Holyhead looking over his Lordship’s land that is to be traversed by the Railway. He encloses a statement of what he considers the necessary requirement for the future occupation of the lands. He feels there will be no occupying of 2 farms without the Bridges that are set down to be built. Further details of financial aspects. Re Dwygyfylchi - 11 or 12 acres of best cornland fields will be rendered useless for tillage [by railway], as there will be but very narrow strips left on either side. Therefore he would put a higher value on this land, say £150 per acre. He has been to Denbigh. Mrs Jones has given up all thoughts of keeping the mills and Mr. Elias thinks he has tidings of a good and safe tenant, the son of a Mr. Davies, a large farmer at Lodge near the town. Enclosed: STATEMENT of what will be required for the future occupation of his lordship’s lands when the road is made.
