LETTER: David Jones, Caernarfon, to Lord Newborough, Portland Place, London, informing his Lordship that the Glan y Liun was a ’Capital Slate Quarry’ producing a greater quantity of slates than the foreman stated. The foreman refused to go to the mouth of the lake to show him any particulars, although he knew that a large quantity of slates belonging to the company were conveyd by boats to that spot. The quarry was carried on by Messrs. Jones, H. Rowlands, Esq., Mr. Roberts of the Bank, John Owen and Robert Griffith, slate loader at Caernarfon. Appended PARTICULAR ACCOUNT of Cloddfa Ganol, Glynrhonwy including the quantity of rags, dutchesses, countesses, ladies and doubles on the bank, the price of making per ton, the price at the quarry, the cost of carriage to Caernarfon, the price at Caernarfon, the cost of weighing for shipping, the price on board, dimension, and the number of men at work at each quarry. These slates were the property of John Thomas, his Lordship’s tenant at Glyn Rhonwun and a large amount of them were on the bank when he was last there.
