Deeds of Title
[Note: The Newborough estates came together over a long period by inheritance, marriage and purchases, but were considered by the managers of the estate until recent times as basically falling into three historic parts: The Bodfuan, the Glynllifon and the Abbey, Denbighshire and Merioneth [Meirionnydd] estates. These largely had geographical entities, although in some places, notably Caernarfon town, two or all three parts of the estates were represented. It was initially considered that it would be desirable to preserve these divisions here, but anomalies caused by later purchases and sales, etc., made for problems in attempting any meaningful arrangement. Since the deeds were stored by the estate (before accession in the Record Office) without these general divisions, it was decided to opt for a purely geographical arrangement of this section with an additional section relating to deeds concerning large portions of the estate.
Where original bundles survived which related to single properties, it has generally been deemed best to retain these groupings as sub-sections under the general heading of parishes. In instances where whole minor estates were taken over, and where allied documents - not being title deeds - often exist, it was thought better to list these outside these structure. Documents touching on transactions subsequent to the acquisition of such minor estates by the Bodfuan/Glynllifon family are however filed in the main geographical part of this section.]
