LETTER: W. Jones, 7 Crosby Square, London, to Lord Newborough explaining some confusion about the Hengwrt plate. When he had been instructed to prepare the late Sir Robert’s will it was stated that the personal estate would be inadequate to pay the simple contract debts, funeral and testamentary expenses, legacies, annuities etc. and that it was intended that his Lordship’s son should take the Rhug Estate subject to mortgages and a deficiency in the personal estate. Now, however, in consequence of the non-completion of parts of the Nannau and Hengwrt estates there would be a surplus which he felt would go to the Residuary Legatee and not towards the mortgages on the Rhug estate. Appended: NOTE by Lord Newborough of his reply requesting Mr. Jones to obtain a copy of the will and ascertain whether there was a surplus. The trustees were compelled by the will to sell the plate and furniture at Rug. [N.L.W. Glynllivon 2597.]
