LETTER: Hugh Williams, Kineton, [co. Warks.], to Lord Newborough [originally] enclosing a short statement of the residuary account of the late Walter Griffith and a statement to show how they stood with Mrs. Griffith, the widow. They had a floating balance of £161.10.6½d. that they ought to invest for the benefit of posterity allowing Mrs. Griffith to enjoy the interest. He proposed, with his Lordship’s sanction, to direct the Caernarfon bankers to buy 3 per cent consols in their joint names. They had a balance of £139.14.9d. in their account with Mrs. Griffith. He proposed to pay this over to Mrs. Griffith’s credit at the Caernarfon Bank where she should open an account to which the bank could be desired to pay in sums as they become due on account of interest or dividends or rents. He had all the vouchers etc. in his possession, which his Lordship could look over. He enclosed a letter to the Bankers which he asks his Lordship to sign, if his Lordship approved. Endorsed: NOTES by Lord Newborough of an address (W. Johnston, secretary, ?Calhart St., Birkenhead [?secretary of the Birkenhead, Lancashire and Cheshire Junction Railway Company]) and that Walter Davies Griffith held 140 shares in the above railway company which were consolidated into stock (1 January 1857). Mr. Hugh Williams, 30 Lansdowne Place had charge of the shares and kept them in Greaves, Greenway and Smith’s bank, Warwick. [N.L.W. Glynllivon 2879.]
