?ORIGINAL WILL of Thomas Davies, Bishop of St. Asaph. Bequests include: his ’cheef mease place’ called brynniemelynion [pa. Llanbedrycennin] to his wife Margaret Davies during the term of her life, and; after her death to Katheryn Davies, wife of William Holand of Abergele, and after her death to Pers Holand, son of William Holand and Katheryn Davies, and the heirs of his body, and in default of heirs to Thomas Holand, son of William Holand and Katheryn Davies and the heirs of his body, and in default to the heirs male of William Holand and Katheryn Davies, and in default to the testator’s brother Hugh Davies for the term of his life, and after his death to his sons William ap Hugh, and George ap Hugh and their heirs, and in default to the testator’s brother Gruffudd Davies and his heirs and in default to the testator’s brother Owen Davies and his heirs, and in default to the Master and Fellows of Queen’s College, Cambridge and their successors forever; £10 to the church where he is to be buried; £10 to the Dean and Chapter of Bangor Cathedral, to the use of the free school erected there by Dr. Geoffrey Glyn, and £10 to the use of the Bishop of Bangor; 20 horse loads of hay annually to his sister Margaret verch Dafydd ap Robert from his farm of dol y garrog during the unexpired term of the lease, and one of the six parcels of tithe corn and hay called the parcell Islawr avon for the next harvest after his death; the parcel of tithe corn and hay which he had in 1569 to Ieuan ap John ap Madock for the next harvest after the testator’s death, and he is to be forgiven the money remaining unpaid for that parcel; the term of years unexpired in the tenement and lands called Tythyn y marchog to Edmonde ap Dafydd ap Meredith, annual rent 5s.; £45 due to the testator upon Hugh ap Rhys of Anglesey ’of which I protest before god I had not a peny’, towards the performance of the will of Dr. William Glyn, late Bishop of Bangor, and also £20 towards the performance of the will if it is not already performed; £4 to be divided between the vicars choral, choristers, and choir of St. Asaph Cathedral; £10 to be divided between his household servants and family; three bays of a house which the testator framed at the bettus to his successor the Bishop of St. Asaph, towards the building of a house of offices at St. Asaph, and two portals, the new drawing table, 12 stools and a cupboard in the greatchamber of his mansion at St. Asaph, as well as all the tables in the kitchen, all the bedsteads except the best, and all the door and windows. Names Margaret Davies as his executrix and residuary legatee, and the Bishop of Bangor, Hugh Davies, Gruffudd Davies, and Dr. Yale as overseers.
