COPY WILL of Dr. Geoffrey Glyn. 15 monetary bequests totalling £144 11s. 8d., £20 to each of his sisters who survive him; a year’s wages and 20s. to Thomas ap Rowland and all his servants at the time of his death. Other bequests comprise: his grey gelding, his second saddle and bridle, his ’lydaye’ and a year’s wages to Owen Glyn; his cloak, boots and spurs to Sir Richard Rowland; his wood knife and crossbow to his uncle John ap Rhys, and his best ring with the greatest turquoise in it to Mistress Grace; his best saddle and bridle, the ring with a death’s head enamelled on to Dr. Ellis; his bay gelding to the Bishop of Ely; and his grey colt and his standing gilt cup to the Bishop of Rochester. He leaves the frier howse in Bangor and his lands in North Wales and elsewhere to Morris, Bishop of Rochester, and William, Bishop of Bangor, to the use of a grammar school to be maintained at Bangor ’for the better educacon of bringing vpp of poore mens children’, £20 to be spent on ’edifying’ the building, and £400 to the bishops to purchase lands, reversions, or annual commodities to the yearly value of £20, to the use of ten scholars ’diligently to be brought vpp at the same scole’.
