LETTER: of Evan Jones, ?Mermin, Y Felinheli to Mr. T.N. Jones, re Wesleyan Chapel, Y Felinheli. At a meeting of the proposed Trustees a desire was expressed that he should write with regard to the Chapel He thanks T.N.J. on behalf of himself and the meeting for this kindness in this matter from the beginning. Since Lord Boston has attained his majority [the Trustees] would be greatly obliged if T.N.J. would again help them with his advice as to the final settlement of the already mentioned business. [The Trustees] are long go prepared for the execution of the lease but they have been waiting for an opportunity to appeal for a reduction of their ground rent. Could he now place their case before Lord Boston or advise them how to act? [The Trustees] state their case. The ground rent of the chapel is at present fixed at £7.13s.0d.. Although it has been let at the same rate per yard as adjoining plots of ground [the Trustees] feel that since theirs is for religious purposes they should be considered as an exceptional case on the ground of custom and usage. They give examples of the ground rent paid by the other chapels in the neighbourhood. Also, although most of the congregation attending the chapel are Mr. Assheton-Smith’s workmen, most of them are Lord Boston’s own tenants.
