LETTER: From: R.A. Poole, Clerk of the Peace, Caernarfon To: ’William’ Mr. Poole has visited the Secretary of State’s Office and talked to a Mr. Phillips. The only reply he could obtain was that the law relating to appointments and Principal of Gaolers was set out in the Acts of Parliament under the heading of ’Gaols, Prisons and Houses of Correction’, and that the Secretary of State had nothing to do with the matter. He advises a meeting with Lord Newborough, or any other magistrate present at the Enquiry, and that the visiting Magistrates should make minutes of their proceedings.
