LETTER: David P. Thomas, London, to his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Robert Thomas, Cafe, Castle Sq., Caernarfon. He had been to Islington Hall the previous Saturday to see the World’s Fair when he saw "Blondin" on the tightrope. The Hall is about three times the size of the Pavilion at Caernarfon. He is always busy reading and had a exam the previous day on Common Law. He is top of the class of about 20 fellows. Asks his parent to send him tea and bacon. Writes about Dr. Parker’s sermon on Sunday on "Self Conceit". He might go to Dr. Clifford’s Chapel the following Sunday, although it’s many miles away. At Dr. Parkers the service begins at 7 o’clock but unless one is there 15 minutes earlier the seats are all taken by visitors. The music is splendid there with an organ, half a dozen fellow playing the violins and a man playing a trumpet. People take their walking sticks to the Chapel, and he is getting used to carrying one now. He has not been as far as the House of Commons, nor Hyde Park yet but has seen Marble Arch at night, and went to Regent’s Park on Sunday where he heard some men speak against Christ. So far he has been lucky enough to borrow all the books he needs from the library. He is pleased his uncle need not go to sea again. He is amused about the case of his Uncle Robert in America. It is the same law (Common Law) there as here, and from what he has learned his Uncle is sure to win as they had not brought the action against him in time.
