LETTER: W.A. Madocks, Naples to Job Williams [Tremadog] The most important letter WAM has ever written to JW. Asks him to read the enclosed from Mr. Fisher, which is acted upon, all is safe; if not all is lost. Miss Hughes, Mrs Madock’s sister will purchase Bardell’s annuity deed for a price communicated at this distance, it is impossible to send the money in time. Fisher proposes to act on Bardell’s deed having purchased it, and when in possession it bars all others. Nothing is more easy than to make a previous agreement in writing, with Bardell binding him to assign his deed, and all interest under it, upon receiving the stipulated sum after he is let into possession. Thus the moment Fisher has agreed with Bardell, and bound him in writing, he can act as he proposes, upon Bardell’s Deed, and in his name, which is much better done in the first instance, and when all is established in Bardell’s name the previous engagement binds him to make an assignment of it to Miss Hughes for the previously stipulated sum, when she pays it. In the meantime Bardell having been let into possessions of the rents and profits of the estate is fully secure and it is in the interest of Miss Hughes to pay him the stipulated sum to get the estates out of his hands. In the meantime it gives Fisher full power to act on Bardell’s deed which will be effectual against Beaumont. WAM writes to Fisher to authorise him to let Bardell into possession. WAM wants JW to go to London to see Fisher sets about it in time, as he is apt to be dilatory and his health is bad. (He is a very good kind of man), and to see Girdlestone to find out if Fisher is going on right. Girdlestone and Ramsey Williams have both approved of the principle of Fisher’s plan. The immediate proceeds of-the tolls, estate and harbour dues must be paid to Fisher to supply him with the means of doing these proceedings out of hand. There are plenty of proceeds the remainder of the year for Ramsey Williams’ costs; the [£]120 for the bank and stone walls. WAM does not wish to object to the latter, but it is like dividing the cabin when the ship is on fire. The estimate JW sent has only produced £93 up to now. When calamity threatens the vessel all fly to WAM for succour. WAM foresaw when he wrote from Florence, that if Daniel could get a percentage, how it would be; WAM begged it might be done any other way and he wrote to say he would take the dues this year at any abatement, but WAM sees in the accounts that he has taken a percentage and the whole deduction is near a third of the proceeds. After August all the funds can go to pay for the bank etc. In October and January there are two more quarter harbour dues due and in November the half years’ rent and all the embankment tolls accruing monthly so there are plenty of funds for the next six months.
