LETTER: W.A. Madocks, Florence to John Williams, Tremadog. WAM agrees with the mooring chain. WAM envisages mooring chains along the deep water between Cae Iago and the Traeth Bach river. It appears to WAM that JW’s estimate of £2OO must exceed the necessary expense. There is nothing but iron and labour;. they have the finest stocks of stone in the world close at hand; what a pity WAM could never get a smithy built at Towyn. The shipping trade and improvements all require it and it is a fine opening for a good workman. A proper estimate must be made out for Mr. Fisher and his clients. WAM hopes that JW will have paid in all the rents, embankment tolls and Daniel’s money. Mr. Fisher complains that he has not heard from JW about the rent or Hugh Jones’ allotments. If Fisher and his clients turned hostile all would be thrown into confusion. WAM is disappointed that the Leicestershire gentlemen have not yet prepared their proposals. Homfray is all very well but he has behaved so ill on occasion. WAM could never consent to his being tenant of Morva Lodge. As to Smith’s brother in TwntyrBwlch. Smith has ill-treated them and though WAM knows nothing of his brother, he does not want any of the family to gain a foothold on Tremadog. WAM had no idea that JW would change his mind so soon about the Leicestershire gentlemen. WAM is glad the port is going on well and the imports increasing. WAM would like a copy of the plan JW says Spooner is making of Ynys y Towyn. Re the quay lime kiln and P[?]gwyn Gest road, if it is drawn on the front half sheet of a long sheet of letter paper and JW can write elsewhere. Is not Smith the engineer gone to Portugal? What has become of Mr. Wilks. Has Homfray anything to do with the slate company now or Peter Moore? Who will be the sheriff and under sheriff next year. Now JW may show himself to be WAM’s friend and have an excellent opportunity of serving WAM which when things get a little more matured next spring, WAM will have an opportunity of making a suitable return.
