LETTER: W.A. Madocks, London to Job [Williams]. There are only three months until the Porthmadog Act is a dead letter unless they set to work before l7 June. WAM wants to know what part of the work is the best to begin upon, in the first place to save the act and second to furnish the port accommodation for the slates so as to encourage the slate owners as well as to justify the tolls being taken after £400 is expended. JW should not mind the limestone or other objects of the Port in the first instance but do all they can for the slates. Re the means, JW’s brother-in-law has a client with £8O0 to advance under certain conditions. WAM is still in hopes of Mr. Fisher doing something and is to see him again on Monday but his clients are hesitating on account of the rents not being paid. JW should send them up to Mr. Fisher without delay. Delay will lose assistance. Howard Lloyd in his agreement engaged to pay last Christmas and his year is nearly expired. If Mr. Fishers’ clients had been kept "in heart" the funds for the port would have been long before in the bank. Requests JW to send him the specification of what should be done immediately to the port as Mr. Fisher is going to Bath again next week. Asks how Jack Griffith and Griffith Griffith are employed.
