LETTER: David Ellis-[Nanney], Gwynfryn to Mr. [John] Williams Embankment Office, Tremadog. He is extremely concerned that his team is incapable of work, the three mares having colds; he was much surprised to hear that JW’s horse-power was so far diminished. He had promise of two teams at first from [Nantcol] and they were to have been with him this morning, having had notice on Monday - but the Bearer of the notice (William Richards) went forward to Clynnog and has not returned; he cannot say to what extent he can depend on Nancol in the future: their F[?r]eeholders became saucy "without knowin" gentry, and they ought to have been seized with the first impression; Cadrelwn is an exception to this remark; - he has always found them as staunch as the best of his own tenants. The instant he received JW’s note, he mounted his horse to "beat up" for carts. He found Robert Thomas of Cae Coch had gone, and he [DE] has prevailed upon Cefn ucha and Ty cerrig (three of Mr. Priestly’s tenants) to be with JW as soon as possible.
