1 bundle of correspondence of Messrs. Poole re business of the Rev. Henry Hughes of Pencraig and Llansadwrn, co. Anglesey, clerk, including some social enquiries and includes correspondence re his dispute with the carrier Mr. Williams for his action in withholding delivery of a box of medicine until bills for 2 previous carriages of goods have been paid; various copy obnds between Mr. Grindley and Rev. Henry Hughes for securing loans; and letters re his law suit against Mr. Grindley; letter (1794, 23 Aug.) from Henry Hughes explaining the difficulties of watering cattle in dry weather. He is forced to drive them twice daily to the Llangefni river to drink. He asks if Poole will sell the estate of Mr. Jones, the late usher, as an alternative source of water for his cattle in dry weather. He points out the poor condition of the farms, but is prepared to make an offer for them; also letters re a debt owed by Mr. Grindley on which he has 3 times defaulted; letters re collection of rents from his tithes; covering letters for gifts of game, etc. sent to Poole; letters denying any dissatisfaction with Poole’s conduct of his business and asking him to continue to act as his solicitor. Letter (14 Nov. 1797) complaining that the tenant of a farm he recently purchased has stripped the field of gorse, which he considers damaging to the land. He complains that the tenant has also let the house fall into disrepair. Letter, 2 Jan. 1798, complaining that the taxes and his housekeeping expenses have considerably increased since the war. Letter (13 Jan. 1798) informing Poole that in order to keep down expenses, inflated by the war and the high taxes and prices, he wishes Poole to send fewer letters to him.
