LETTER: Arthur Ashley of St. Asaph Mill to Mr. T. A. Corlett, Esq., of the North and South Wales Bank, Liverpool. He has received a demand requiring a reduction of the money he owes the bank or security for the same. Because of the sudden ruinous decline in the value of flour and pressure on the money market he is unable to meet their demands. He gives a list of his creditors and the sums owing totalling over £1400. Gives details of his lease of the mill. He has also spent money on improving the machinery in the mill. Be suggests that it would be in the best interests of his creditors that the business be continued; he hopes to be able to pay off his debts eventually. To do this he needs a loan of £200 which he asks the bank to advice. He blames his misfortune on the extraordinary times.
