X/POOLE/345

LETTER: Herbert Jones, Esq. of Lynon to Richard Poole, Beaumaris [Biwmares], discusses choice of a foreman who must be able to read an indictment "if he has a red nose and a prominent belly - the more consequential". He also asks Poole to chose a gentleman to represent the sheriff - he must be able to "put on his Hat cocked en militare and look fierce". He refuses to provide anything for them to eat as "an empty belly sharpens the wit, besides gormandising ill becomes the solemnity of the assize". Congratulates Poole on "the timber escape" and adds that his hands will probably stay undefiled for some time longer. Discusses the forthcoming Turnpike meeting.
