COPY LETTER: William E. Morris, Porthmadog to F.W.A. Roche, esq, informing him that he has paid £500 to his credit at the National Provincial Bank on account of the quarter ending 30 Sept. Complains that the shipment of slates has greatly fallen off in comparison to what it was in 1872, nearly 51000 less, so the dues on vessels have decreased. The goods per the Rebecca and other vessels have kept up well. The coal trade is also decreasing on account of the railway communication to Ffestiniog having two lines against one. States that business `is now very dull, scarcely any slates being shipped’. Foreign trade fell off earlier than in previous years also.
