Purpose of the post
•Ensure that the people of Gwynedd are at the heart of everything we do.
•Assist with day to day maintenance in the harbour and marina
•Assist harbour users by providing information on tides and weather
•Work in all parts of the marina and harbour and provide administrative support as necessary
Responsibility for functions
Responsibility to ensure that all equipment and materials are in suitable working order
Main duties
•Responsibility to ensure that all Aids to Navigation are maintained and are in the correct location and are operational at all times.
•Responsibility for ensuring the “Pwllheli Harbour by laws” are adhered to by all vessels within the Pwllheli Harbour limits, and that all vessels adhere to the correct speed limit within the Harbour limits.
•Regular Harbour and Harbour limits patrols using the designated Harbour Patrol vessel.
•Ensure that all speed control buoys are maintained and in place during the summer months.
•Ensure that all vessels on the pile moorings/moorings/pontoons are secured with correct warps and fendering at all times, and make regular checks during adverse weather conditions. Be on call during adverse weather conditions if required.
•Weekly muster checking of boats on pile moorings and marina berths.
•Assist on fuel quay if required.
•Assist Bosuns if required with lifting or boat moving
•Assist customers with boat berthing, securing water and electrical supplies to vessels if required.
•Movement of boats around Harbour/Marina using the Harbour launch.
•Monitor general site tidiness, ensuring regular emptying of skips, waste oil tank, waste batteries, oil filters and tidiness of trolley compound.
•Ensure that all toilet/shower facilities are constantly maintained to the highest possible standard of cleanliness.
•Pontoon maintenance work during quiet months – power wash pontoons, decking repairs, maintenance of power points, light modules etc, painting, general building and site maintenance.
•Operation of marina computer system to arrange berth bookings, produce invoices, process payments for berthing, gas and ice sales, log boat arrivals and departures.
•Slipway maintenance/life belts and ladders in the Harbour area.
•Update computer berthing system in line with weekly mooring muster checks.
•Operation of VHF radio to communicate with boats requesting marina berths, observing correct VHF radio procedure.
•Answer the telephone, take and pass on accurate messages, deal with routine customer enquiries, always observing a polite telephone manner.
•Take diary bookings for customers requesting hoist/crane/storage bookings.
•Log customers’ boat keys in and out of office.
•Annual registration of power vessels and personal water craft.
•Understand applications of fire, first aid and oil spill procedures.
• Allocate berths on the pile moorings and marina berths and pass information to Assistant Manager for admin/accounting purposes.
•To assume responsibility for running the Harbour and Marina in the absence of the Manager, Assistant Managers.
•Undertake any other duties assigned by the Harbour Manager or Assistant Managers.
•Responsibility for self-development.
•Ensure compliance with Health and Safety rules in the workplace in accordance with the responsibilities noted in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Council’s Health and Safety Policy.
•Operate within the Council’s policies in relation to equal opportunities and equality.
•Responsible for managing information in accordance with the Council’s information management guidelines. Ensure that personal information is treated in accordance with Data Protection legislation.
•Commitment to reducing the Council’s carbon emissions in accordance with the Carbon Management Plan, and to encourage others to act positively towards reducing the Council’s Carbon Footprint.
•Undertake any other reasonable duty which corresponds to the salary level and responsibility level of the job.
•Responsibility to report any worry or suspicion that a child or vulnerable adult is being abused
Special circumstances
•To work weekends and Bank Holidays
•On call during adverse weather if required.
