Purpose of the Post.
• Ensure that the people of Gwynedd are at the heart of everything we do.
• Provide legal service to the Council to enable it to work for the benefit of the people of Gwynedd
Responsibility for functions . e.g. staff, budgets, equipment
•None save for office equipment e.g laptop
Main Duties .
• Advise Council Departments and other clients on legal matters within specified areas.
• Attend and advise Council Committees as required on matters arising from the specific practice areas of the post holder.
• Represent the Council and other clients in courts, tribunals inquiries and other formal hearings as required and within specified practice areas.
• Deal with legal work arising from specific practice areas.
• As required from time to time assist with the legal work of other members of the legal team.
• Undertake any other reasonable duties given to the post holder from time to time by the Legal Services Manager.
SPECIFIC PRACTICE AREAS
• The specific practice areas can vary from time to time. At present they include the following:
• Deal with social services matters including mental health, care in the community, disability, deprivation of liberty cases and registered care homes.
• Represent the Service on panels and external committees relating to social services.
• Deal with the following aspects of education matters; duties of teachers and schools, exclusions , additional learning needs and governor duties.
• Deal with any other equivalent reasonable duties which accord with the pay grade and responsibilities of the post .
• Responsibility for self-development.
• Ensure compliance with Health and Safety rules in the workplace in accordance with the responsibilities noted in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Council’s Health and Safety Policy.
• Operate within the Council’s policies in relation to equal opportunities and equality.
• Responsible for managing information in accordance with the Council’s information management guidelines. Ensure that personal information is treated in accordance with Data Protection legislation.
• Commitment to reducing the Council’s carbon emissions in accordance with the Carbon Management Plan, and to encourage others to act positively towards reducing the Council’s Carbon Footprint.
• Undertake any other reasonable duty which corresponds to the salary level and responsibility level of the job.
• Responsibility to report any worry or suspicion that a child or vulnerable adult is being abused
Special Circumstances . e.g. the need to work unsociable hours, special working arrangements etc.
• You are required to attend evening meetings from time to time. You will be required to attend meetings both within and outside Gwynedd from time to time)
