LETTER - John Roberts, The Gardens, Tan y Bwlch, co. Meirionnydd, N. Wales to W. E. Oakeley re. garden expenditure being high. He explains he had to keep what men he had so as to finish clearing the timber. He also intends clearing large rhododendrons, ’but if your wish is to discharge the extra hands sooner, so be it’. Has enclosed copies of labour sheets but cannot include the joiners and estate men’s pay. He commends the gardeners work and says he had another two men painting as well as two walling. He received 4 plants of Buckthorn in November. Wants to know what to do about the lilies and gladioli’s. Thanks W.E.O. for asking about his wife’s health. Postscript mentions that the bothy has not been finished.
Enclosed: LABOUR SHEETS for two months ending Dec. 23, 1882 and Jan.20, 1883. Includes names of workforce.
