LETTER: William Elias, the Abbey, Llanrwst, to Lord Newborough. William Elias writes to his Lordship with details of building work which must soon be undertaken on the estate. He says that his Lordship has already visited Nantmelai and seen the premises as unfit for human habitation. He gives further details of the miserable state of affairs at Nantmelai. The tenant is separated by a wattle partition from his livestock. He gives a plan for re-building the tenancy, saying that if a small new house were built then the existing dwelling could be converted into outhouses. The landlord has expended no money on improving Nantmelai in the last century. Elias gives further details of affairs on the estate, referring especially to a mill operated by a Mrs. Jones and to a cloth mill which is up for sale.

In accord with normal archival practice in Wales, details of documents are presented in the language of the document. Where details appear in Welsh, then Welsh is the language in which the document is written; where they are in English, the document is in English.
