LETTER: Col. Pennant to Lord Newborough. Col. Pennant expresses amazement that his Lordship has appeared on a prospectus of the Provisional Committee (of the Porthdinllaen Railway). He warns his Lordship to check the feeling of the other landed proprietors before proceeding. Pennant proceeds to write of a navigational affair, saying that Stephenson’s plan has been rejected by the Admiralty. They have fallen back on the principle of a suspension, rather than an arched bridge. He reports that the Trustees at Caernarfon have, without any communication with himself, passed a resolution that the matter be referred to the Committee of Harbours. Pennant goes into great detail concerning the matter, giving his own idea as to how it should be dealt with. He also makes reference to his Lordship’s petition concerning the Pwllheli affair, which he delivered to the owners.

In accord with normal archival practice in Wales, details of documents are presented in the language of the document. Where details appear in Welsh, then Welsh is the language in which the document is written; where they are in English, the document is in English.
