LETTER: W. Chadwick to Lord Newborough. Mr. Chadwick regrets that his Lordship’s letter arrived too late for his name not to appear on the Provisional Committee of the Porthdinllaen Railway. He then asks his Lordship not to withdraw his name at this stage as it would be injurious to the whole undertaking. Endorsed: DRAFT of letter in reply to above: His Lordship regrets that his name appeared on the prospectus without his prior authority, but in view of assurances already given to him, his Lordship has no objection to the railway running across his land. However, his Lordship does request that his name be withdrawn from the Provisional Committee, hoping it will do little harm at this early stage in proceedings. Enclosed: PROSPECTUS of the North Wales Railway’s proposed undertakings including details of the members of the Provisional Committee and of the estimated traffic the railway might carry, etc.

In accord with normal archival practice in Wales, details of documents are presented in the language of the document. Where details appear in Welsh, then Welsh is the language in which the document is written; where they are in English, the document is in English.
