LETTER: Col. L.P. Jones Parry, at the "Sportsman", to Lord Newborough. He has obtained further promises [of votes] at Bangor. Robert Jones of Newborough House denied that he was canvassing but said he would vote against Parry as he had an unpaid bill from Major Nanney. Parry had understood that Jones would be neutral and allow his dependants to vote for Parry. Mr. Rumsey Williams has great power and there is nothing to be done, though Parry’s father had obliged Jones much. If they lost the election it will be thourgh Mr. Smith’s exertions, it is said that the Duke of Wellington has promised him a peerage if he can bring a county borough member. Parry encloses pamphlets attacking R. Roberts and certain workmen who vote for Parry, praising Sir D. Erskine, Mr. Pennant, Mr. Smith, Mr. Garnons and Mr. Turner, and saying that no-one understands commerce etc. but Major Nanney.
