LETTER: W.G. Griffith, Bodegroes, to Lord Newborough, apologising for the delay in replying to his Lordship’s letter and explaining that he had been attending the County Meeting in Caernarfon in an unofficial capacity - the sheriff not having been ’superseded’. He was the only person there from Llyn and Eifionnydd. This had occasioned considerable surprise, especially as they had been so instrumental in turning out the late member because of his support for the Catholic claims, and this was the first chance to act after their opposition. The petition was agreed to at the meeting but not signed. The signing was expected to be at the Pwllheli Fair that day and then sent to Bangor, Caernarfon and Conwy for signature. He had asked that a copy of the petition and resolutions be sent to his Lordship by Mr. Evans, the attorney who assisted the undersheriff. He feared that his Lordship was expecting more than could be accomplished re the building accounts. He had directed Elias to go to Pemberton at Holywell to get the Abbey and Melai accounts completed. He did not know about the Glynllifon accounts as Bettiss was away. He hoped to have completed the accounts by the end of the week. His statement of receipts and disbursements would be in his Lordship’s hands before his Lordship left town. He was not the first mover of the additional loan; the first intimation he had of it was from Messrs. Farrer in a letter, asking for the names of additional farms which could be used as further security. He had done this believing that these were his Lordship~s wishes.
