LETTER: William Elias, the abbey to W Glynne Griffith, Bodegroes, concerning a woman pauper from Llanrwst who is to be moved from pa.[rish] Llandwrog to the Abbey. She was hired in 1805 to be in the service of Lord Newborough for a year but there seems to be doubts about her presence at Glynllifon during the last forty days. William Elias consulted the butcher’s book and nothing was ordered by Glynllifon from 4 October to 22 November 1806. The Glynllifon family went to London during Easter 1807 but the women hired said their year was up at Christmas, which does not make forty days. The father-in-law of W E feels strongly enough about the issue to try the woman at the next quarter session at Ruthin on 11 January. It is mentioned that the Abbey could be liable to Poor Rate but W E considers this to be dangerous if the question was agitated and brought before the Quarter Sessions. Lord Newborough will be sorry to find the old privilieges of the Abbey and Dolgarrog meadows lost. He will investigate further the matter and consult Mr. Reading who hired the woman. If the case is made good, the Abbey will be found vulnerable. If the Abbey will have to support the poor, he finds it desirable to join it to Ardda. The Conwy tenants believe that the verdict wil be on Friday 14 January.
